All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

HELPING THE CHILDREN OF OUR COMMUNITIES

KIWANIS CLUB OF ST. ALBANS - ANGELA PORTERFIELD

Angela Porterfield, Insurance Agent in our St. Albans, WV office is proudly the current President of the Kiwanis Club of St. Albans, WV. The Club was organized on May 15, 2019 and Chartered into Kiwanis International.

If you are not familiar with Kiwanis, they are a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Their vision is to be a positive influence in communities worldwide, so that one day all children will wake up in communities that believe in them, nurture them and provide all the support they need to thrive.

Here is what Angie had to say about her involvement, upcoming events and how you can get involved:

I joined Kiwanis Club to make a difference in the community I grew up, St. Albans, WV, and the children living here now. I want the children to know that with a little support and determination all their goals are obtainable. The children of today are our leaders and volunteers of tomorrow and we need to invest in their future and ours. The rewards are endless!

Currently we are active in mentoring programs in our local elementary schools at Lakewood Elementary and Weimer Elementary. We are currently looking for members and volunteers to be able to offer the mentoring program in ALL our Elementary and Middle Schools. We are working to implement reading programs and activities to teach the children to give back to the community.

We have built the Kiwanis Kloset, from donations of clothing and personal hygiene items that allow us to work alongside the school faculty and parents to distribute them to children in need. We have worked with Weimer Elementary to install a washer and dryer unit and to complete their facility for families in need of clean clothing and bathing. We currently are working with other schools for this need as well.

We have continually joined the Saint Albans Chamber of Commerce, City National Bank, Alban Art Center and local businesses through sponsorship to bring fundraising to a ultimate high. We have hosted a dinner cruise aboard the River Queen in June 2019. We utilized the money raised and donated from ticket sales, silent auction items and a 50/50 raffle in order to support programs for the children in our community. Together we also presented a Fun Magical evening to the community and awarded 70 children in our local schools with free tickets to attend the show. With additional support of Marco’s Pizza in St. Albans the recipients and their chaperones also received a free dinner. We recently participated in the Trunk or Treat night in October. This event provides a fun, safe night of spooky costumes and candy to over 2,000 children.

We are currently working with many organizations to make sure that children in need of coats, gloves, scarves and hats for winter and are gathering food for holiday gift baskets.

We would love more people to join the club or take part in our events, however you can also support Kiwanis Club of St. Albans through our T-shirt Fundraiser, Husson’s Pizza Night, Kroger Community Rewards Program to name a few.  We are currently putting together a Pampered Chef Bingo Night and have so many more events planned upcoming.
